Astronote, "AstroNoMix"
I think it's great when producers take their own initiative and put out projects that allow them to exercise their gifts and get people to get a feel for their sound. Why do we have to wait for artists to call us in order to be heard. I first heard about France's Astronote on "The Remixes Vol. 1" and honestly, it didn't sink with me. Hey, nothing wrong with that at all, everybody's got opinions. Not saying it wasn't good, I just wasn't feeling it; it's cool... but I didn't write the name off either.
Now he's released another slew of remixes and album cuts that he's produced for some really dope artists on a project called "AstroNoMix". With this free download, you get a few remixes of commercial artists blended with a bunch of underground talent, who I think capture or at least work better with Astronote's sound much better. Yeah, it's an opinion. Either way, definitely check this project out. Hey, sometimes it takes a few listens to allow an artist to grow on you. I remember back in the day when I was all up on the smooth production (a'la Pete Rock, DJ Premier, The Roots, etc) and my cousin, Boom88, introduced me to Company Flow. It took me a few listens to really soak in the sound but I haven't been the same ever since. Maybe I should revisit Astronote's "The Remixes Vol. 1" to see if I was mistaken.
